History

The Partners for Excellence Program of the Ann Arbor Public Schools was initiated in February 1985 with the inauguration of six partnerships that paired schools with area businesses and organizations. This program was developed to increase community involvement in the schools, enhance classroom learning, and provide assistance with school improvement projects.

Over the decades, the Ann Arbor Public Schools have established a long and exemplary tradition of educational excellence. This tradition has been supported and enhanced by the strong commitment and involvement of the community. Today, more than ever, the services of the community are needed to strengthen our educational programs.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Partners for Excellence Program is to enhance classroom learning, increase student achievement and position the next generation to be a top-quality work force through the formation of partnerships between units of the school district and the Ann Arbor community.

Program Goals

Bring business, civic, higher education and other community resources directly and personally into the schools to work with students, teachers, and administrators on jointly planned and implemented projects.

Provide genuine enhancements to learning in the classroom.

Give students, teachers, and administrators realistic views of the private sector and what preparation is needed to succeed in it.

Give business and community representatives an understanding of the educational system—how it works, its strengths and its challenges.
